The purpose of my report is to give you an
overview of the Club’s progress in the last twelve months
and to give you an idea of the coming changes.
This year, 2011, is the 75th anniversary
of the founding of our Club!
I suspect that some of our older committee
members may well have been juniors when the club was formed
and the anniversary is a timely reminder that we must
continue to cultivate and support our junior section as the
next generation that will keep the club going through future
landmark anniversaries.
Generally fishing has been good on all
waters with few casualties from the 6 week long freezing
spell. Two records were broken on Leland, with the Common
Carp now at 31lb 7oz and the Tench record now at 7lb 13oz.,
the latter to a day ticket angler.
The club has received good press coverage
this year not only in the local press but also in national
angling publications thanks to Mark Sawyer, Tom Legge and
Ben Hervey-Murray.
Once again the Club ends the year in a
strong financial situation and the committee recommend
that no changes are made to the current club card and day
ticket prices. On both Magpie and Atkins the committee
recommend that the loyalty scheme be of buying three day
tickets and get a fourth free, be made a permanent offer.
The revised programme for the third lake
is to obtain planning permission by September this year to
enable grant applications to be made before Christmas with
funds hopefully granted from the 1st of April 2012.
Our biggest challenge continues to be
reinforcing our committee and bailiffing structure to
maintain our day ticket income. Whilst we welcome one new
member onto the committee, we are still searching long term
for replacement Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer,
Match Secretary and Auditor as well as training a new
generation of bailiffs across the board. Last year’s advert
in the club card brought a disappointing zero response but
we shall actively look for volunteers in the coming months.
We continue to offer a variety of fishing
opportunities in well bailiffed properly maintained lakes
and rivers with good facilities but we are always open to
your suggestions as to how these may be improved.
