The Old West River and Lagoons near
Stretham.
|
|
The Club and
the Environment Agency have been involved in an improvement plan
for the last 3 years |
| Two small lagoons have been
dug and connected to the river, providing a refuge when the river is in
flood or when boat traffic is at its height. They also provide
breeding areas in the spring.
|
| The club has constructed a
bridge onto the island created when the lagoons were dug, thus
increasing the number of pegs available on the river. Trees have
also been cleared to give better access to the large lagoon. In
the near future the shallow area of the large lagoon will be dredged and
the existing roadside fence will be extended for the full length of the
roadside boundary. This will hopefully reduce the amount of fly-tipping
along the road, down the bank and into the fishery and also reduce the
extra work that local manager Phil London has to do to clear it all up.
